The fx-991w, fx-570ms (softhacked), fx-115es plus and Sharp can implicitly multiply i (no need to type the '*' between i's). You can also do negative integer powers as well on the Casio fx-991ex. My old 991W and the 82MS (using 570MS soft hack) can't handle using anything other than the built in x 2 & x 3 functions the general power button doesn't work at all it seems (though the fx-115es plus and Sharp El-W516x can work with the general power function, it is once again limited to x 3). So Casio must of added this functionality with the introduction of the fx-991ex. This is interesting in that all of the calculators I tested can't handle complex powers this big including the fx-115es plus. While probably not super relevant, the predecessor to the MS series (570/991W series circa 1998) can't handle negative square roots even in complex mode, you must multiply the square root by i to get the equivalent. I'm betting the TI-36x Pro is pretty flexible with when storing complex numbers in variable memory. Switching modes from Complex back to Normal on both the Casio & Sharp causes the complex variables to lose their imaginary part (They aren't restored on switching back to complex). On both the Casio and Sharp switching to Complex mode erases the calculation history in addition there is only a single memory "M" available in complex mode on the Sharp EL-W516x, while Casio fx-991ex has all of it's memories available. I think the TI-36X may be the winner here if keeping your calculation history is more important. Video 4 (Square root of negative numbers): Same problem on the Casio MS series (570/991MS), double roots aren't shown, so a definite win for TI.On the Casio MS series (570/991MS) you don't get exact values either. I've only played around with the TI-30X Pro MathPrint emulator, but it looks like the TI-36X Pro has that 'OP' function, so I guess you could do the same here by storing the quadratic formula there. On the Sharp EL-W516x you can store the quadratic formula in the formula memories if you want the exact values, with the bonus that you can then use the result of that calculation in any subsequent calculations without switching modes.
